The effinfunny live show this past weekend (nov 3rd) went so damn well, I was going to blog about it myself. But then i thought why not get it from the POV of the one of the comics themselves. the uber talented and fresh faced Hasan Minhaj obliged:

This weekend I was a part of the effinfunny.com comedy showcase at the
Empty Stage Comedy Theatre in LA. First of all the show lived up to its tagline and was effin funny–Jonah Ray, the Sklar brothers, Howard Kremer, Steve Agee, and Brody Stevens…myself–how could you go wrong? Second, the theatre was far from empty. The guys at effinfunny did an awesome job packing the place and from the get go the vibe in the room was amazing. Jonah was being quirky, Howard Kremer was spittin’ fire, the Sklar brothers were tag teaming on the mic, and Steve Agee destroyed with a hilarious Myspace bit. I was the opener, and from a comics standpoint most guys are pretty hesitant to want to open the show; usually the crowd is pretty cold and it’s your job to just warm them up to get the show going. This was the exact opposite; the crowd was so on it I could just jump straight into material without effin’ around (is that the third time i’ve used effin’ in this paragraph?). My set went great and from what I heard from the audience it was only uphill from there. I think the crowd got one hell of a treat too b/c these shows put together such an eclectic mix of stand up styles and genres.

For an up and comer like myself this has been one hell of an opportunity to be a part of this group of comics and comedy lovers. Even ask Fahim Anwar; ever since he’s been on the website his street cred in Fremont has been going through the roof….

If you weren’t able to make it to the show, all I have to say is that you missed out. The coolest thing about this site is that not only does it hook up great up and comers with established comics, but also promotes them in a way that is much better than myspace. You get all the comedy without all the fluff, applications, and 15 year olds telling you about their webcams. Sure, some people may be into webcams, but I think this site is focusing on the right stuff for now. I can’t wait to be a part of their show again whether it is a part of their Fresh N’ Funny show or hosting a showcase just like the one I was a part of. Until then, you’ll see me out in SF repping effinfunny.com!

The Sklars are out for this month (they rescheduled for Nov 3rd) but fret not because Daniel Tosh is IN. Check out the opening bit on this radio interview he did and tell me he wasn’t meant to do the effinfunny show.

I saw him up in San Jose with fellow effinfunny comedian John Evans opening up for him and they both just destroyed the place. Tosh immediately became someone I needed to do the show and thanks to the Sklar Brothers (they felt badly about cancelling and were so cool as to vigilantly go out and try and get a great comedian to take their place) we scored Daniel. I fear for the crowd on Saturday because someone’s head WILL explode and I’ll be cleaning brain off the theatre seats. Should be fun. Hope to see you there.

And for all you Sklar Brothers fans, they will be doing the Effinfunny show on November 3rd. That show promises to be so far off the hook, it’ll barely be able to see the hook over the horizon. It’s almost like there’s no hook, you know what I’m sayin? Howard Kremer, Brody Stevens, Jonah Ray, Steve Agee, a funny Indian kid (Hasan Minhaj) and now the Sklars. Yikes.
